Amazing Manta experience with Josh, Matt and especially Joi the dislocated city girl! These people were fantastic, informative and a lot of fun to dive with. Me and my son did scuba and my wife and daughter did snorkeling. They took care of everything and made everyone feel safe and comfortable. Nice touch the hot chocolate at the end. If you want loud and obnoxious groups go with someone else- those groups were out there! KONA OCEAN ADVENTURES, The only reason we'd return to the big island.”

Kona Ocean Adventures was great and when we make a return trip to Kona they are the reason why. We experienced nearly everything the big island had to offer but were particularly pleased with the three excursions we made with Kona Ocean Adventures. These included a half day charter, a manta ray night charter and a two tank dive. My wife and I were vacationing with family and friends and our group consisted of my four month old daughter, our nieces and nephews ages 3, 5, 8, and 10yrs, my brother and sister in law and two close friends. We were all extremely pleased with the service, the attitude and willingness of KOA to ensure EVERYONE had a good trip. As previously mentioned we were so satisfied with our KOA the first day we booked two MORE activities with them that same week. We cannot say enough good things about the KOA staff especially Capt Pono, Lindsay, Joy and Seth. The level of service was unparalleled with any we experienced on this trip or others in the past. Highlights of our trips included swimming with dolphins, learning the history of the island, swimming and diving with manta's, diving with sharks, rays and everything else you can imagine. If you visit Kona and do not seek them out you are missing an unforgettable, brag to your family, boast to your friends, once in a lifetime, great time!

Nous avons passé un moment fantastique avec Laure et Danny sur leur bateau. Toujours en petit groupes de maximum 5, avec plein de snacks super bons, les sorties ont été très conviviales et relaxantes. Les plongées étaient super belles (nous avons vu une Manta Ray, Eagle Ray, un requin, pieuvre, murènes...) et nous avons nagé avec des dauphins: ce qui était tout simplement magique! La plongée de nuit était géante, fantastique ! Merci encore à Laure et Danny et j’espère pouvoir revenir !

We were a family of Mom, Dad, Grandmother, and 8 year old son. All of us were well-taken care of and had great time. Captain Danny and Co-Captain Laure are fantastic people and a highly experienced dive and snorkel crew. Great for experienced divers, or novices. A small operation, with big-time quality. They know the Kona waters like the back of their hands, and easily found mantas and dolphins for us -- plus lots of local history. We felt like family by the time we left.

The Manta Rays in Hawaii fins have evolved into wide triangular wings with which they use to “fly” through the water. Varying in size anywhere from 4-20 ft, makes them amongst the largest sea creatures anywhere in the world. The Hawaiian Manta Rays are  fascinating and stunningly beautiful sea sights. Believed to have a lifespan of up to 25 years, this greatest of the ray family have been documented swimming at depths of up to 100 feet

These gentle giants will absolutely take your breath away. 

You may be wondering why we go snorkeling with the Mantas at night? Scientifically, we believe they may feed most actively at night, when many planktonic creatures naturally rise to the surface, providing a rich bounty on which Mantas may feed.

Using dive lights, we are able to attract concentrations of these plankton and therefore attract the Mantas. 

It is exhilarating to be in the Ocean at night with the Mantas.

176 Manta Rays have been identified and named along the Kona Coast.

"Zach-a-ray" (seen below)  is named for Zach Scott, son of Captain Danny Scott. he is approx. 6 ft across.

I booked the manta ray snorkel as a birthday gift for my husband. There were many companies to choose from but I definitely made the right choice. Other boats had 20+ people. We chose a smaller boat and got personal treatment, including homemade salsa, fruit, cookies, veggies, and hot cocoa. Laure and Danny were wonderful and made the experience so great. The snorkeling was surreal (not scary at all!) and we even swam with bottlenose dolphins! Don't get shuffled around- small group, personal attention, yummy snacks. Have already recommended it to 3 people and it was just last night! Mahalo nui loa, Danny and Laure!
